  • I make almost all of my patterns in Procreate and then put them together in Photoshop. I LOVE using soft textured brushes in Procreate. Cool to draw lines with and get those lovely rough edges, but not so much fun for filling in, right? Because you get those wooly edges that just won't fill all the way no matter how much you turn up the threshold! So then you have to trace over the gaps by hand any it is really tedious!

  • I have been asked a few times how to make plaid, tartan or gingham patterns in Procreate. I wanted to share a quick and easy way to do it in Procreate if that's the only option you have. Because sometimes, we've just got what we got, right? Also, sometimes you just want to be able to make a seamless plaid pattern without getting up off the sofa! (just me?) Using this method will guarantee you lovely, evenly spaced grids with no wobbly lines and a perfect seamless repeating pattern for using in your artwork, such as clipped to a lettering design as I demonstrate in the video.

Quick and Easy Way to Make a Seamless Plaid Pattern in Procreate

I have been asked a few times how to make a gingham, tartan or plaid pattern in Procreate The answer is normally, that I wouldn’t make these in Procreate, I would use Photoshop, as I think it gives you more flexibility and precision. BUT… I wanted to share a quick and easy way to do […]

  • I am also sharing a free cushion mockup with you, just because I was so in love with the photo by Julia Peretiatko and her beautiful scene was too good to keep to myself after I used it to mockup a pattern I had recently made! Subscribers can find the mockup in the Freebie Library. A note on using the mockup: it is best suited to lighter fabric designs like the one shown here.

Free Cushion Mockup + Six Little Things

I know you’re excited for the free cushion mockup, but first, just take a moment to look out of the window. There is something so magical about this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere. It feels like all of nature is preparing to rest, tucking itself under a nice cosy blanket ready to enjoy […]

  • Now that is out of the way, let's start by acknowledging this truth. "The Algorithm" is not a physical thing. It's not a person or sentient being who sits in an office, looking at our posts, grading them out of ten. They are not appraised by eyes that have a lifetime of emotion, and feelings and reasoning behind them. It's a piece of code. Literally a string of characters and numbers on a screen. That's what we are trying to please. Those lines of code are what have us doing silly dances and pointing to captions on a screen.

5 Ways I guard my mental health against the Algorithm

  • May was a month of summer seaside patterns and illustrations. I'm lucky enough to live fairly close to the coast; just a short 40 min drive away and it is a big source of inspiration for me. I love to explore rock pools (with or without my little boy!) and collect shells and fossils along the Jurassic Coast.
