I’m going to give you some ideas for how to optimise your surface pattern designs for print on demand whilst maintaining good image quality. This will help you to create more professional-looking designs that customers will want to buy and hopefully lead to more sales!

We’re always looking for ways to work smarter rather than harder, right? Well here’s a tip to get more assets for print on demand out of your surface pattern designs.

Plain rectangles of pattern don’t really work for things like T-shirts or stickers, but rather than just leaving those designs disabled, how about redrawing one of your motifs at a larger size and better shape for a piece of wall art or clothing?

Often just pulling a motif as it is out of the pattern won’t work as it’ll probably be too small, but you can copy and paste it into a larger document and then redraw it at the correct resolution, editing the layout if necessary and then you have an extra piece of art to apply to all those extra products! I find that for my Threadless store, T-Shirts are the biggest sellers, so it’s definitely worth an extra 10 mins of drawing to get those extra products in there!
