I thought I would also put May’s art challenge prompts here on the blog as well as over on Instagram and my newsletter!
Since January this year, I’ve been hosting the #committedtocreate2023 art challenge over on Instagram and it’s been so much fun! It’s hard to pick my favourite part: seeing your lovely artwork, or making new friends along the way!
Why I wanted to start and Art Challenge
Back in December last year, I finally did something about the fact that it had been on my heart for a while to host some sort of weekly drawing/art challenge on Instagram. Having a regular and intentional drawing practice made the biggest difference for me in 2022. That year the amount of licensing contracts that found me via Instagram had massively increased compared to the year before. I put that down to always having regular new work to post there.
Making new art on the regular is also really good for us creatively too. Creativity is like a muscle and the more you use it, the stronger it gets. (I took a break from drawing during August last year and it took another full month to get myself back in the habit!)
I know that drawing every day isn’t something that’s realistic for all of us. So I didn’t want to start a daily drawing challenge that would stress us all out and make us want to give up! So I launched a weekly drawing challenge to help us all get in the habit. Welcome to the Committed to Create in 2023 Challenge!
I’ll be posting the prompts on the last Saturday of each month for working on and posting over the coming month. If you subscribe to my newsletter, you’ll get them a week earlier than everyone else! I love a bit of forward planning, and I’m sure you do too! Ps. My subscribers also get access to the Freebie Library!
You can (and should!) interpret the prompts in any way you like and make them work for you. Don’t be afraid to push the boundaries! You can daw them, letter them or pattern them. (Someone even crocheted one!) I fully intend to do a mix of all three as we go along! Use any colours and any medium, Apple Pencil or a real pencil to create your work. You can post in any format too; stories, reels or my favourite, a regular good old fashioned picture post! Just don’t forget to tag me so I get a notification! Use the hashtag #CommittedToCreate2023 so that you can connect with and get to know other artists too. That’s half the fun of a drawing challenge, right?!
The theme for May’s Art Challenge is Enchanted Forest and the prompts are as follows:
28th-5th Magic Mushrooms
6th-12th Foxy Friends
13th-19th Woodland Berries
20th-26th Midnight Forest
I hope you will all join in this fun challenge with me. I am really looking forward to seeing what you all create and building a happy little space where we can all encourage and inspire each other in 2023!
